HONG KONG. Supporting information for the core category retail tenders at Hong Kong International Airport underlines the extraordinary impact of the Mainland Chinese travel and spending boom in recent years. Collectively, sales across liquor & tobacco, perfumes & cosmetics, and airside general merchandise, have risen by nearly 81% in five years. The perfumes & cosmetics concession, run by Nuance-Watson (HK) has grown +105%.

UK. A new Inside & Out health and beauty salon has just opened at Edinburgh Airport. The airside unit will offer a range of health and beauty treatments, ranging from massage to skin rejuvenation, waxing, manicure, male grooming, dietary advice and holistic therapy. It is the family-owned company's first airport unit.

FRANCE. Aéroports de Paris has unveiled the huge scope of its full-scale retail overhaul for Paris's two major airports to be completed over the next five years. The revamp will feature walkthrough stores and luxury boutiques, all with a Paris theme. Initiatives will also include a new souvenir concept called Air de Paris.

FRANCE. SDA, the joint venture between Aelia Group and Aéroports de Paris, unveiled a major rebranding of its duty free shops in the French capital yesterday. More than 80 brand suppliers gathered in Paris to hear SDA set out its wide-ranging ambition to help create one of the world's top airport shopping destinations. The Moodie Report was also present to hear the strategy behind a new retail branding, BuY Paris Duty Free, for both Paris Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.

FRANCE. In a major announcement L’Oréal CEO Jean-Paul Agon has unveiled three major appointments to the Executive Committee, effective 1 January 2011. Marc Menesguen will head the newly created Strategic Marketing Department, Nicolas Hieronimus will become Managing Director of the Luxury Products Division, and An Verhulst-Santos is named Managing Director of the Professional Products Division.

UK. BAA today launched the Heathrow Travel Product Awards for 2010, which will recognise "the best travel accessories and gadgets" on offer at the airport. The awards will be decided by the British public, who are being encouraged to vote online for their favourite items. This year, 12 categories are being put to the public vote, including Travel Must-Have, Best Handbag, Top Travel Read and Best Travel Entertainment.

NETHERLANDS. Travel Retail Innovations is set to distribute a new hair removal treatment by Remington in global travel retail. Called the ‘I-Light’, this new device uses flashes of Intense Pulsed Light that put the hair follicles to sleep and claims to leave the skin hair-free for up to three months.

GERMANY. Braun has announced Lufthansa as the first airline to list its new Satin Hair Brush, which will be available onboard from July. Since its launch in Europe late last year, Braun strived to create an airline-suitable packaging in order to make the product more attractive for inflight sales. The Satin Hair Brush will be previewed at the TFWA Asia Pacific exhibition in Singapore this month.
