Hailed as Australia’s first high-definition external airport digital billboards, the advertising sites include two large 6m x 9m digital roadside billboards, as well as one 23m x 3m digital gantry, targeting all departing and arriving passengers.

Chauntry, the provider of airport parking reservations systems, has launched its first client site in North America at Edmonton International Airport by implementing its online pre-booking solution, ‘Parkspace’. The 3,300-space parking facility, jetSet Parking, uses Parkspace to offer incentivised parking rates and an integrated customer experience.

US. Car rental is growing as a vital source of ancillary revenue for airlines and the travel industry, according to a report released by airline ancillary revenues consultancy IdeaWorks. Titled ‘Planes, Cars, and Ancillary Revenues’, the report focuses on the opportunities afforded by car-hire activities and how the US$35 billion (€26.45 billion) global car rental industry is driving ancillary revenue for the airline industry.

SWITZERLAND. A new survey has indicated a shift in satisfaction over rewards offered by loyalty programmes and demonstrated the need for a wider array of reward options to excite frequent travellers. "Consumers have more options and more control than ever and it's vital for businesses to provide consumers with rewards they want to earn in order to maintain customer engagement and encourage repeat business," Loylogic's survey noted.

NETHERLANDS. From today, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is offering free WiFi throughout the airport, both before and beyond passport control. Passengers can connect to wireless internet from any device with login access, free of charge for an hour. The service is being offered as part of a partnership between telecoms provider KPN and the airport group. Schiphol claims to be the first major European airport to offer the service.

Dufry Group today reported a strong set of results for the first nine months, with turnover increased by +11.7% to CHF1,966.2 million (US$1,995 million), or +16.1% at constant exchange rates, of which organic growth accounted for 10.7 percentage points of the rise. EBITDA grew by +20.5% at constant rates and net earnings increased by +65.5% reaching CHF107.9 million (US$109.4 million).

The ‘Fly High Awards – Advertising at Hong Kong International Airport’, organised by JCDecaux Transport with the support of Airport Authority Hong Kong, was held last week to recognise the contributions of advertisers, media and creative professionals in Hong Kong International Airport advertising. A total of 11 awards were presented to winning campaigns from over 90 entries, which have capitalised on the strengths of the airport to promote their brands, companies or products.

NETHERLANDS. Schiphol Group has reported a solid +2.8% year-on-year rise in revenues from its Consumers Business Area in H1 2010, to €137.6 million. Crucially, average spend in the See Buy Fly shops rose by +3.4% to €15.74 in the half. The division’s revenues were hit to the tune of €2.7 million by the volcanic ash cloud in April and May. Revenue for the group as a whole hit €545 million in the half, down by -1.5%, though profits grew sharply.

INTERNATIONAL. Dufry Group plans to open close to 20,000sq m of new retail space in 2010, covering 152 stores, CEO Julián Díaz told analysts after Thursday’s half-year results announcement. More than half of the stores will open in Q3 and Q4, with a strong contribution from Dufry’s Hudson acquisition. Díaz also reiterated the retailer’s desire to expand in emerging markets, with Russia, China and India of particular interest.
